Royal Challengers Bangalore’s star batter Virat Kohli suffered a knee injury in the RCB vs GT game on May 21 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. RCB head coach Sanjay Bangar shared an update about the injury as he reckons that there is nothing to worry about Virat Kohli’s fitness.

There was an injury scare for RCB when the star batter left the field after injuring his knee while taking the catch to dismiss GT batter Vijay Shankar. In the post-match press conference, Sanjay Bangar discussed about Kohli’s knee injury.

I don’t think there is anything serious: Sanjay Bangar on Virat Kohli’s knee injury

“Yeah, he had a bit of a niggle in his knee. But I don’t think there is anything serious. Having scored two back-to-back hundreds within a gap of four days is a special achievement. He is somebody who not only wants to contribute with the bat but even when he is fielding. He did a lot of running around,” Sanjay Bangar said in the post-match press conference.

“Forty overs a couple of days ago and today [Sunday], for 35 overs he was on the field, he was giving his best. So it is going to bother at some point, but I don’t think it’s anything serious,” the RCB head coach further informed about Virat Kohli’s injury.

Virat hurt his knee while taking a catch to dismiss Vijay Shankar in the 15th over off Vijaykumar Vyshak’s bowling. After the incident, the RCB physio attended him but Virat walked off the field and never came back even during the intense situation of the RCB vs GT clash.

It’s worth noting that Team India will contest in the WTC 2023 Final which will start from June 7, and will run till June 11. Team India will face Australia in the final which will be played at the iconic ‘The Oval Cricket Stadium’ in London, England.

Virat Kohli’s knee injury has raised some concerns as he’s a key part of the Indian test squad and there isn’t much time left in the WTC 2023 final. However, the update shared by Sanjay Bangar makes it pretty clear that the injury won’t affect his participation in the marquee game.

After the loss in their final league game against Gujarat Titans, RCB have been knocked out of the IPL 2023 edition. Virat Kohli is now likely to be among the first batch of players to leave for England for the WTC 2023 Final.
