On Wednesday, Manchester United defeated Nottingham Forest 2-0 thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and Fred in the second half.

This resulted in a 5-0 aggregate victory for Manchester United, which qualified for the League Cup final.

Wout Weghorst, a January signing, headed a pinpoint Casemiro cross against the post at Old Trafford. Almost scoring another goal in the first half with few clear-cut chances.

In an effort to settle the score, United manager Erik ten Hag brought on top scorer Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Anthony Martial in the second half. The French forward scored the opening goal in the 73rd minute.

Three minutes later, Brazilian Fred added the finishing touch by scoring at the far post to set up his team’s final match against Newcastle United on February 26. Extending Ten Hag’s team’s home winning streak to 12 games across all competitions.

Ten Hag stated to Sky Sports, “To be honest, the first half wasn’t great.” I thought it was professional, but we missed a lot of opportunities and moved too slowly.

It would be an understatement to say that the odds were stacked against Forest going into the match. Prior to their trip to Manchester, no team had lost the first leg of a League Cup semi-final by at least three goals.

Away fans’ hopes of a big upset were further dashed when they saw the United starting lineup. Where Rashford and goalkeeper David de Gea were the only players left out. Ten Hag was named a strong team.

Despite their impressive recent run, United struggled to get going. With Case, miro’s header was well saved before Brazilian forward Antony volleyed over from a distance.

Martial scored after Rash ford’s shot fell into his path, and Rashford squared for Fred to complete a comfortable victory despite Ten Hag’s substitutions.

Only Liverpool has played in more League Cup finals than United, and the team is aiming to win its first trophy since 2017.

Steve Cooper, manager of Forest, stated, “Congratulations to United and Newcastle, and good luck to them in the final.” We are, of course, disappointed in general, but the damage to our chances of reaching the final was done last week.
