Tottenham begin life without Antonio Conte away at Everton’s Goodison Park tonight needing at least a point to get back into the Premier League’s top four. Spurs currently sit fifth but could capitalise on Manchester United’s loss at Newcastle in their first game under the interim management of Cristian Stellini.

The Italian has previously impressed when standing in for Conte but the pressure really is on now. Stellini faces a fight to get Spurs over the line in the race for Champions League qualification and anything other than a win on Merseyside against an Everton team currently in the bottom three would be a huge disappointment.

Spurs went into the international break off the back of a disappointing draw at Southampton but the hope will be that Conte’s exit lifts the mood somewhat. Follow all the action with Standard Sport’s dedicated match blog, Dan Kilpatrick will be providing expert analysis from the ground!

Fabio Paratici steps back from Tottenham role pending appeal after FIFA extend ban

18:24 , Jonathan Gorrie

Fabio Paratici will take an “immediate leave of absence” from his role at Tottenham, pending the outcome of his appeal against a worldwide ban.

The club’s managing director had his 30-month ban from Italian football, for his role in alleged financial mispractice at Juventus, extended by FIFA earlier this week to apply worldwide.

It came just hours after he appeared in a video for Tottenham giving an update on the managerial situation after Antonio Conte’s departure, and he was set to play a leading role in making a permanent appointment this summer.

Julian Nagelsmann keen on Chelsea job but wants to wait until summer to decide future

18:07 , Jonathan Gorrie

Julian Nagelsmann is interested in the Chelsea job after Graham Potter was sacked.

Nagelsmann is out of work following his departure from Bayern Munich last month and the 35-year-old German is a leading candidate to take over at Stamford Bridge.

There has been no contact between Nagelsmann and Chelsea at this stage.

While Nagelsmann is understood to be keen on joining Chelsea, it is not clear whether he will want a proper break before considering offers.

It is understood he would be keen to wait until the summer before deciding his next move.

Nagelsmann has also been targeted by Tottenham to take over from Antonio Conte.

He retains a positive reputation despite being sacked by Bayern, leaving with a 71.4 per cent win rate and having guided the German giants to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Tottenham bid to prove Antonio Conte wrong as right of reply begins with Everton trip

17:49 , Jonathan Gorrie

One of Antonio Conte’s more drastic warnings for Tottenham came before last season’s home game against tonight’s opponents Everton.

In March last year, both clubs were in a similar position to today, with Tottenham fighting for a top-four finish and the Toffees battling relegation, but Conte predicted that Spurs, too, “could slip” down an ultra-competitive League table.

“You’ll have to pay great attention,” Conte said. “Teams that at this moment seem to be in the middle, they could slip.” His implication was clear: without me, Spurs could quickly find themselves in big trouble and even a relegation dogfight of their own.

Danjuma offered Tottenham hope as Stellini vows fresh selection slate

17:41 , Jonathan Gorrie

Cristian Stellini has told Tottenham‘s players to expect a fresh start on selection during his tenure as interim head coach.

The Italian has handed renewed hope to fringe men like loan forward Arnaut Danjuma, even scotching any issues with Brazil star Richarlison in calling for unity in north London.

Spurs face Everton at Goodison Park on Monday night in their first encounter since Antonio Conte’s departure last week. Conte’s position was left untenable by his remarkable outburst criticising the club and his players after Spurs’s 3-3 draw at Southampton on March 18.

Prediction: Narrow Tottenham win

17:33 , Jonathan Gorrie

Stellini impressed during his few games in charge when Conte was absent after surgery and surely Spurs will be able to muster some kind of response against an Everton team sorely lacking in goals.

Tottenham to win, 2-1.

Tottenham team news: Lloris and Perisic could play

17:32 , Jonathan Gorrie

Spurs, meanwhile, could well have captain Hugo Lloris back in goal after injury, with Ivan Perisic expected to be fit.

Ryan Sessegnon, Emerson Royal, Yves Bissouma, Ben Davies and Rodrigo Bentancur are all missing though, with Richarlison a key doubt.

Everton team news: Calvert-Lewin a doubt

17:31 , Jonathan Gorrie

Dyche has confirmed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still injured and will not be able to return against Spurs. Elsewhere, Everton have largely a clean bill of health, aside from the long-term absence of Andros Townsend.

Nathan Patterson is fit for the game, although Dyche would not confirm if the Scotland international would come back into the team.
